Rising Mississippi rapper Lil Lonnie has a strong sense of melody and a radio-ready autotune tone that could make him the next star to explode out of the South. With his new mixtape TKWGO 2, released as a free download via LiveMixtapes, the Jackson-native is sure to turn heads with his self-assured confidence and earworm hooks. TKWGO 2 is the sequel to last year’s underground hit They Know What’s Goin’ On, which was the top-downloaded independent mixtape on LiveMixtapes in 2015. Featuring appearances from Bryson Tiller, K Camp, and Jxmmi of Rae Sremmurd and production from Big Fruit, Will-a-Fool and others, TKWGO 2 is sure to be one of the most talked about mixtapes of the year.
Lil Lonnie was born and raised in the crime-ridden Virden Additon region of Jackson, MS, but he never got involved with gangs. “I wasn’t a bad kid,” Lil Lonnie admits, “I was a class clown.” The youngest of five children, Lonnie was raised by a single father who taught his children the value of a work ethic. “My mother passed when I was 5 years old,” explains Lil Lonnie, “My dad raised me. He was a carpenter, he had his own business. He taught me how to construct my own business and motivated me to work for my own self.” Lonnie dove headfirst into music when he entered high school, starting his Hip-Hop career as a producer. After gaining some statewide attention as a producer in his high school years, Lil Lonnie released his breakthrough single, “I’m The Type,” which opened the doors to local radio and club shows.
