Could Atlanta be the new “Sin City?”

Jim Murren, chair and CEO of Las Vegas gaming industry pitched the idea of a casino project to Georgia to generate employment. This project is estimated to cost $1 million and be located in downtown Atlanta.
The Georgia House and Senate are asking voters if Georgia should legalize casino gambling and/or horse racing.
Dean Reeves, president of the Georgia horse racing Coalition, plans to build a race track in Atlanta featuring live horse races. Limiting races to 20 days per year for the most elite horses and prizes.

A portion of the gambling revenue is said to be donated to Georgia’s HOPE scholarships and pre-k programs.

“Atlanta is the largest metropolitan area in the U.S. without a racetrack,” said Alex Waldrop, president and CEO of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association. “That is a hole in the economy of Atlanta that has to be filled.”
