Cher Rue takes plus sized pageantry to new heights

Everybody loves a good pageant. We see them on TV,  in movies, media  you name it,  pageants arethe american way! It’s pagent season again and of course the media scandals and are at an all time per usual as we all witesed on The View this week with Miss Colorado.

Moving  right along Cher Rue head pageant director of California Plus America based in Los Angeles, CA caught my attention for all the right reasons. Cher is poised, kind and a gem to anyone who is lucky enough to be in her presence. Not at all like the pageant directors or moms we see in the movies or on that TLC show.  So I had to find out more about how Ms. Rue stays so postive in an industry built on judgement and competition.

You run a successful pageant for plus sized women called California Plus America. What is beauty according to you?

Beauty to me is how kind to others someone is, how they treat their friends, family and strangers. How they reach out to help people in general especially those in need. I always look for the inner beauty in a person when I meet them.

What inspired you take on the world of pageantry?

I was inspired to be a part of the pageantry system after years of having fashion shows for the plus size community and helping plus size models and designers inspire others and follow their dreams. I was introduced to the system and it has proven to be a great decision in my life.

What is the biggest misconception you think there is out there about beauty pageants ?

I feel the biggest misconception that is out there about pageants is that it is all about looks and women just wanting to wear a sash and crown.

Do you think plus size pageants get the same recognigiton and respect as other pageants?

I do not feel that plus size pageants get the same recognition and respect that averages size pageants get, but I do feel that it is changing and as the word gets out, and the world sees that size is just a size and what is inside is what counts, I know that someday we will be close to everyone enjoying our pageants and supporting the plus size pageants.

What is the most rewarding part of being a pageant director and mentor to so many women?

The most rewarding part of being a pageant director is the mentorship, seeing women and teens come into the system, sometimes shy, or nervous and then after spending time with them and their other sisters in the pageant their confidence boosts, they feel the fellowship and learn about service to others and charities. This is why I do it, I am all about helping others, charity work and mentorship. To see their smiles on stage as they walk in their pant wear and gowns, they smile and feel like they have accomplished something, I love it.

Do you have any advice on how to stay confident in a world that seems to judge so harshly?

The advice I would give to anyone on how to stay confident in any situation, is love yourself, be true to whom you are, and it doesn’t matter what others think about you, only what you think about yourself. People judge others, it is not right but some people are judgmental and you cant change everyone you can only change you.

As I said everyone loves a good pageant. I look forward to the reign of Cher Rue.   ( That name is everything )
