Derek Bishop has released his sophomore album, Bicycling In Quicksand — a seamless blend of retro-disco, euro-pop, and 80s new wave. The ten-song album features Derek’s trademark energy, showcasing bona fide grooves that harken back to the days when the music was funky and the beats were undeniable. The new record is deep, rich, and colorful – using a cornucopia of vintage keyboards as the base of the album’s sound.
The latest single “Shutting Down,” showcases the artist at his exuberant best: in a little less than four minutes, Bishop manages to evoke 1980s synth-pop & fashion, vintage mirror-ball disco, Pet Shop Boys-style storytelling, and electronic dance music. It’s an exhibition of Bishop’s talents as a lyricist, tunesmith and arranger.
