‘I Have Nothing Against Transgender People’

Waka Flocka Flame has defended himself against allegations that the rapper is homophobic after some inflammatory remarks he made regarding Caitlyn Jenner on a New York radio show. Speaking to The Breakclub Club on Friday, the rapper said Jenner was “rebuking God” by being a transgender person and that “the devil” was playing tricks on her mind. On Saturday, the rapper clarified his comments in a series of tweets where he wrote, “I have nothing against transgender people. I simply feel we need to be careful what our children see as ‘sensationalized.'”

Caitlyn Jenner, and Moving Past the Transition NarrativeWaka Flocka Flame’s Breakfast Club remarks were aimed at Keeping Up With the Kardashians, an immensely popular reality TV show that he accused of “marketing young girls, transgenders, they’re marketing evil.” “So now I’m #Homophobic because I don’t agree with #CatlinJenner [sic] Smh,” the rapper tweeted Saturday. “I’m not homophobic, I have nothing against the gay community. I’m still standing on what I said… I’m not a fan of transgenders marketed like a superhero.”

Throughout Waka Flocka’s explanation, he hashtagged #WakaForPrez, alluding to his 2016 presidential campaign. However, despite running for office, he noted that, “I’m not a politician so I could never be politically correct.” The rapper added that his remarks were made to protect impressionable young minds that happen to watch reality television. “Children’s brains are a constant development to adulthood. And they pay attention to everything whether we want to accept it or not,” he tweeted. “I’m a father now so I look at life a lot differently.”

Waka Flocka also blamed the press for blowing his comments out of proportion and twisting them into clickbait, although he expressed regret about his choice of words during The Breakfast Club interview. “And yes, I was wrong for using the word #evil. I apologize for that and every person I offended,” he tweeted.
