Angel McCoughtry and Maya Moore WNBA’s Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week,

Angel McCoughtry of the Atlanta Dream and Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx today were named the WNBA’s Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played July 4 through July 10.

McCoughtry earned the Player of the Week honor for the second time this season and the 15th time in her eight-year career.  The two-time WNBA scoring champion helped the Dream win all three of its games last week as Atlanta (11-9) moved into second place in the East.  For the week, the former University of Louisville standout tied for first in scoring (23.7 ppg), tied for fourth in rebounding (7.3 rpg) and tied for second in assists (4.7 apg) among East players.  She raised her season scoring average to 20.2 points, third best in the WNBA.

The four-time All-Star tipped off her week with 18 points, six rebounds and three assists in a 77-64 home win over the Seattle Storm on July 5.  Three days later, she tallied 27 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in a 95-90 victory against the visiting Dallas Wings.  McCoughtry capped the week with 26 points, six rebounds, three steals and three blocks in a 67-63 win over the host Connecticut Sun on July 10.

Moore earned Player of the Week honors for the third time this season and the 17th time in her six-year career.  The former UConn standout led Minnesota to a 2-1 week as the Lynx improved to 16-4 overall.  Moore paced all WNBA players in scoring (28.3 ppg) for the week while ranking eighth among West players in rebounding (6.3 rpg) and tied for eighth in assists (3.3 apg).  For the season, the 2014 regular-season MVP is the WNBA’s fourth-leading scorer (20.0 ppg).

Behind Moore’s 33-point, six-rebound, three-steal effort, Minnesota opened its week with an 87-82 home win over the Chicago Sky on July 5.  Moore then scored a WNBA season-high 40 points and added eight rebounds and three steals in a 93-89 overtime road loss against Connecticut on July 7.   She capped her week with 12 points, seven assists and five rebounds in a 93-56 home victory over Dallas on July 9.

Other candidates for the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Chicago’s Elena Delle Donne, Jamierra Faulkner and Allie Quigley, Connecticut’s Chiney Ogwumike, Dallas’ Glory Johnson, the Los Angeles Sparks’ Candace Parker and Nneka Ogwumike, the New York Liberty’s Tina Charles and Seattle’s Breanna Stewart.
