In 2014, MRF received 5 OUTmusic Award nominations, of which he won 2: Humanitarian Songwriter of the Year for “Be Strong LGBT Youth” and Best Spoken Word Performance for “Tender”. “This Love” from Mob Music, vocal ballad co-written with Lisa Bello about her husband and son, was a Top-10 Finalist in the 2014 American Songwriting Competition. Title track “Mob Music” and track 7, “I Just Wanted” saw airplay on UK radio, and “Trying” remains in rotation on over 60 Smooth Jazz Radio stations (Nationally, Internationally & 5 Billboard stations). “What If God Was One Of Us” the only cover on the album, charted at #24 on iTunes top 200 jazz songs. Most recent single, a cover of “I Can’t Make You Love Me” appeared at #55 iTunes top 200 jazz songs.
Mike is also a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (GRAMMY Awards) and educator for Berklee College of Music in their Faculty Outreach program.
