American Apparel recently debuted the “They O.K.” collection and campaign. I finally have had a chance to experience the collection and wonder how many of you purchased from the collection?
The three-piece capsule collection includes two new unisex tees, each featuring one of two distinct loud and proud slogans, “Still here. Still queer.” and “They O.K.: All Pronouns Welcome”, both retailing for $24.00 each. A tote bag rounds out the collection offers, retailing for $30.00.
“They O.K.” pays homage to American Apparel’s bestselling “Gay O.K.” T-shirts, updated to include everyone across the gender spectrum, with a playful (but pointed) subhead in the messaging, “They O.K.” American Apparel has always been an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and is excited to continue and elevate this tradition with the launch of the capsule collection.
The American Apparel Pride campaign imagery, accessible in the below noted links, came together via an open casting held for all members of the LGBTQ+ community. Aiming to create a campaign that celebrated the beauty, love, diversity, and courage of the LGBTQ+ community, American Apparel reached out via social media and IRL, encouraging trans and non-binary people to participate in an effort to spotlight and celebrate those who are often underrepresented.
The Pride campaign features 9 individuals that were selected through American Apparel’s ongoing casting initiative to tap real people through open calls, and the brand hopes to continue collaborating with these new models (and other members of the LGBTQ+ community) for future campaigns.
