It’s a bittersweet moment as we head into the final season of The Have and the Have Nots’. After years of following the lives of the rich, powerful, and locally very public Cryer and Harrington families (dubbed “The Haves”) and the poor and destitute Young family (dubbed “The Have Nots”). Oh yes baby! It went there, in case you missed it.
Over the past 7 seasons we have followed the story and found times to laugh, times to cry, and most important, times of self reflection.
This series has presented a blend of every family we know including our own. In a recent interview, Reneé Lawless who plays Katheryn Cryer stated to the effect that no matter how much money a woman has, she can relate to Katheryn in the sense that as mothers, there are always things going on with our children. Spoken in all TRUTH! Though Katheryn is Mrs. Money Baggz Bootz, she represents the life of a mother who is holding it together for her family and striving to save face at all cost. #TalkAboutIt
Taking the time to explore the worlds of the women we have grown to love and hate, LoL! I recently had the opportunity to speak with Reneé Lawless and Angela Robinson aka the LEGENDARY Veronica Harrington. Upon interacting with the ladies one of the main things that sticks out to me is the relationship that they share. More than just a co-star, these ladies present a genuine relationship that dominates the room and drives you to feed off of their energy. Seeing them in person shows you the extent of their superior execution when it comes to getting into character and acting.
As the day went on, the ladies were asked what they wanted the fans to take away from the series. As she began to answer, Reneé began to become overtaken with emotion. As she fought back her tears, she said, “you can do anything you want!” The power in her
words provided a great narrative to the power in her tears. This is more than a show experience, The Have and the Have Nots’ represented a dynamic that of life, love, lies, and growth that has not only captivated the viewer base, but the talent as well.
As it came time for me to have my moment, y’all know I had to have my moment (LoL) I asked the ladies if they enjoyed the evolution of their character on the show. Reneé expressed that she absolutely loved the path that Katheryn took on the show and was delighted to bring her to life. Angela expressed that she enjoyed Veronica from an Actor’s perspective, but the one thing she wanted from the character was the acceptance of her son. Babeeeeeeeeeeeeee! When I tell you this one hit me in the heart. Many know my story and the way I pulled away from my family when my sexuality became a discussion. Thinking back to myself, I understood the raw emotion and power in Angela’s statement… (grab me a tissue)
Ooh chile! Bringing it back to season 8, based on the inside scoop, we are in for a treat. Are you ready?
