In case you missed it, last week we advised of the DIVAS Simply Singing: Annual Fundraiser for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Awareness Set to Feature Performances by Kenny Lattimore, Rahsaan Patterson, Jennifer Holliday, Todrick Hall, Jenifer Lewis, Rhyon Brown and More! that took place in LA.
We were on the ground for the 27th Annual event kick-off and babeeeeeeeeeee, it was an amazing experience. Ashton Pina took lead on the ground and took the time to create a true Rainbow Affair experience. More than just a red carpet viewing, Ashton took the time to hear what the celebs had to say in reference to the ongoing efforts to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and continuing the onward efforts of prevention.
Get into this red carpet experience as it is as much informative as it is enjoyable.
The D.I.V.A., Divinely Inspired Victoriously Aware, Foundation is a national not-for-profit 501c(3) charitable organization founded by actress and honored AIDS activist, Sheryl Lee Ralph in 1990 as a memorial to the many friends she lost to HIV/AIDS as an original company member of Dreamgirls on Broadway. The foundation stems from Sheryl’s deep concern for the lack of attention given to AIDS in the early years and its potential to become a health risk not only for men but women and children.
DIVAS Simply Singing! is the longest consecutive running musical AIDS benefit in the country and continues to serve as a loving tribute for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. It is our goal that this event will raise a quarter of The DIVA Foundation’s operating budget helping to continue our efforts of erasing stigma, raising awareness, and promoting HIV/AIDS prevention through arts and education.
DIVAS Simply Singing! honors the drivers for Project Angel Food, who selflessly give their time to help feed and nourish the sick as they battle critical illness. For nearly 35 years, volunteers and staff cook and deliver nutritious meals, free of charge, to homes throughout Los Angeles County to alleviate hunger, prevent malnutrition and returns their clients to health. Some of the proceeds from this year’s event will go to support Project Angel Food.
Black-ish Star Jenifer Lewis was on site signing her new memoir “The Mother of Black Hollywood” at the VIP reception.
The evening also featured an honor to Todrick Hall, multi-hyphenate and former “American Idol” contestant turned Broadway star (“Kinky Boots”), who is this year’s recipient of the The DIVA Foundation’s Vision Award.
Over the years, DIVAS Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Teena Marie, Tremaine Hawkins, Karen Clark Sheard, Yolanda Adams, LaShun Pace, Dottie Peoples, Jennifer Hudson, and many more have raised their voices in song on the DIVAS stage.
DIVAS Simply Singing! has gained notoriety in many circles. DIVAS was featured on TvOne’s hit reality series ‘R&B DIVAS’Atlanta. The ‘R&B DIVAS’ raised their voices in song and shared their personal experiences with HIV/AIDS in the most compelling way.
