Getting a chance to catch up with Ashton Pina, he takes time to bring up into the world of his anticipated feature film, “Lemon Squeeze.”
Because my friends have made such an impact on my development as a person and artist, I wanted to document male friendships with a distinct lens on queer relationships of color. With the lack of diverse images, Lemon Squeeze specifically showcases some of the complexities that exist within that of Black and Latino Men.
The reason I want to tell this story is to show how relationships, especially friendships, evolve over time.
We’ll see angles that set the atmosphere, but as we learn more about the characters, their situations and undergo the weekend of festivities, the perspective shifts to a much more immersive experience. The camera will breathe as the characters do and a more natural lighting style will be used to enhance the fly on the wall viewing experience. A vibrant color pallet that is earthy and a breezy will be the backbone of overall visual strategy.
An emotional complexity, reliability, and vulnerability in the performances of actors will be needed to fully realize the characters.
