The self-proclaimed “God of Rap” is now the King of Shoes, too.Kanye West received this illustrious title from leading sneaker magazine Footwear News, which named the rapper’s signature Adidas Yeezy Boost 350s its “Shoe of the Year” on Thursday.
West’s highly coveted shoe launched online in June, only to sell out worldwide after a few hours.
The kicks originally cost $200 per pair, but they regularly sell for more than triple that amount on the resale market.
“(The 350s have) been a huge hit across a wide swath of influencers, from sneakerheads to stars, fashionistas and a wildly devoted public,” the magazine wrote.
The “All Day” rapper also released a high-top version of the shoe four months earlier called the Yeezy Boost 750s, which he debuted at the Grammy Awards.
“From the moment Kanye West unveiled the 750 high-tops on the Grammys, his Adidas sneakers have been the most-coveted, most-talked-about, most-recognized shoes this year,” the magazine added.
Footwear News will name the rest of its 2015 FN Achievement Award winners in its forthcoming October 26 issue, and the magazine will present hardware live in New York City on Dec. 2.
This is the second year that the magazine has presented the Shoe of the Year award. The winner of 2014’s inaugural honor was Adidas’ classic Sam Smith court shoe.
