Mostly women and some men took to the downtown Los Angeles streets to join the 31 year old stripped turned model Amber Rose at Pershing square for a women’s empowerment event entitled SlutWalk.
Rose held the latest of many SlutWalks, that originated in Toronto in 2011. It was a protest against derogatory speech and behavior that regarded an officer telling students, “Women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized.”
SlutWalk expresses “outrage toward issues of sexual violence, gender inequality, derogatory labeling, and victim blaming.”
Rose was more than happy to have dressed the part in a short cleavage-baring black lace slip paired with thigh-high leather stiletto boots; but she was not alone. Numerous participants indulged in the risque appearance as well; some in costumes, others shirtless, and one only sporting pasties.
The event hosted by the model’s non-profit organization, “The Amber Rose Foundation,” included a variety of celebrity guests, dance performances, vendors, food, HIV testing, and sexual awareness booths.
The group has launched a GoFundMe page seeking $65,000.
“Your donation will support our foundation and groups and organizations of women who have been subject to slut shaming, a lack of implication of double standards, sexual assault, and even rape,” the page states. “Los Angeles is just the first of many cities that we hope to expand this moment to with your help.”
