Grown-ish has Arrived

January 3rd has come and gone and the release of Grown-ish on Freeform has happened. (I was able to catch it on Hulu)

Zoey Johnson heads to college and begins her journey to adulthood, but she quickly discovers that everything isn’t going to go her way when she leaves the nest.

I have been waiting on this for months. Zoey is in college and the games have finally begun. In episode one, Zoey arrives at California University certain she will be a hotshot on campus, but quickly learns she may have a little more growing up to do.

I love how the show is approached through her eyes and they have kept to the core of who hey is in Black-ish.

A contemporary take on the current issues facing both students and administrators in the world of higher education. Yara Shahidi portrays Zoey – Dre (Anthony Anderson) and Rainbow’s (Tracee Ellis Ross) popular, entitled, stylish and socially active 17-year-old daughter – as she heads off to college and quickly discovers that not everything goes her way once she leaves the nest.

The show puts me in the mind of a younger Awkward Black Girl/Insecure. Though episode 1 started off kind of slow, I understand that they have to give the backstories on the cast, I think it should have been an extended episode due to this. However, I am a fan so far and will continue to tune in to see what Zoey has in store for us.
