Think about it like a whole bunch of fun laid over a futuristic, energetic beat. That’s what you get with the new release from BHuman entitled, “Believe!”
Once you hear it, you’ll know the vibe.
Transatlantic queer pop group BHuman have released their take on a Cher classic. “Believe” is reimagined in shiny electronic pop perfection by the transgender Brit and gay American duo of Billie Lloyd and Harrison Scott and is purposefully dropped ahead of NYC Pride weekend. It’s pretty much the queerest thing ever. Imagine the dynamism of two complementary vocals bought intimately close to the mics, subtle nods to the original arrangement in the modulated buzzing synth lead lines, and (dare we say it?) a slightly less obscene use of autotune. At that point you might be halfway there. It needs to be heard.
Lloyd described what led BHuman to tackle Cher, “Ahead of our debut live show we wanted to cover a song that people would recognize but that would allow us to put our own spin on it. ‘Believe’ is such a classic anthem and we just started playing around with it in the studio and we very quickly found something very compelling. Plus, Cher is the ultimate gay icon so it works well for pride.”

Despite having never set foot on the same stage, it’s a testament to the pair’s shimmeringly cool electropop compositions that the duo have already managed to draw acclaim from Billboard, Pride, NewNowNext and more. Of course, you may remember either member from their solo endeavors before joining forces as this power-duo. Both were darlings of Out Magazine, while Harrison Scott was singled out for a feature by Entertainment Weeklyand Billie Lloyd was a Huff Post Musician Of The Week. The two met on the NYC songwriters scene, striking up a friendship and mutual respect for each other’s work, and set to write and record whenever they had the opportunity.
“Believe” follows the release of the duo’s self-titled debut EP, which featured the singles “Safe” and “Goodbye”. Check out the single “Safe” on Spotify‘s official Transcend playlistand the outlandishly fabulous “Goodbye” video featured on Billboard. These, and the other songs on their debut EP, are the result of collaborative songwriting, rewriting, remixing and polishing till the songs found their current form as the essential introduction to the duo.
The upcoming BMovie EP continues to refine their sound. Harrison Scott explains. “‘BMovie is us continuing to explore and iterate our sound. I think by the end of the first EP we’d figured out the kind of music that we wanted to make; ‘good’ fun pop bops, with important messages behind it.” But, he continues, “If you listen to ‘Safe’ VS this new single, you can really see that we’ve started to move to a more focused, pop sound while still having fun with our signature weird sound effects and production. To be honest, we’re not sure we’ll ever stop iterating on our ‘sound’, so I think we view this as another chapter in our larger ongoing body of work.”
