Y’all know I love me some A$AP Ferg. His entire existence is a movement. More than music, Ferg is all about community and the betterment of us as a people.
Recently, A$AP Ferg sought to find a way to help the folks in his hometown, Harlem, New York when the Coronavirus pandemic broke out and African-Americans were dying at alarming rates from the virus. Ferg found out that one of his favorite places to eat, Melba’s Restaurant of Harlem was helping to feed people, so he reached out to owner, Melba Wilson to ask how he could help. Melba’s Restaurant has been delivering meals to essential medical, maintenance and support staff who have been on the front lines in support of support at Harlem Hospital Center. The donations have been going through The Friends of Harlem Hospital Center (FOHHC) in support of its COVID-19 Relief Fund. A$AP Ferg immediately donated funds to pay for 300 more meals.
“It has been a blessing to have A$AP Ferg make such a sizable donation. His hearthfelt contribution has allowed us to not only bring back recently furloughed employees but also nourish hospital workers who are making the biggest sacrifice, during this time of need” said Melba Wilson.
In response to this pandemic, Harlem Hospital Center has been converted into a COVID-19 Emergency response operation. “We were pleased to provide meals to strengthen the hospital as the teams work round the clock. The Hospitals’ physicians, nurses, technicians and support staff have been strengthened and encouraged by the support that they have received from people from around the world during this difficult time. Our Providers have been on the front lines delivering services to the community who need and deserve extra care, they deserve our gratitude and appreciation” said Rev. Jacques DeGraff, Chairman of the Friends of Harlem Hospital Center’s Board.
Since its inception in 1987, the Friends of Harlem Hospital Center (FOHHC) has raised more than $10MM for programs at the Hospital and the community it serves. The Hospital serves a predominantly economically underserved community that experiences significant disparities in health outcomes. The FOHHC Board is Chaired by Rev. Jacques DeGraff, noted Civil Rights Leader and Associate Pastor of the Pastor Canaan Baptist Church. Bridge Philanthropic Consulting (BPC) serves as the fundraising counsel to the FOHHC.
