Recently, I had the pleasure of attending one of the Notes for Notes interactive sessions. This session was held at the Boys & Girls Club on the Eastside of Atlanta.
Notes for Notes® is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that designs, equips, and staffs after-school recording studios inside Boys & Girls Clubs offering youth the opportunity to explore, create, and record music for FREE. Notes for Notes Studios are packed with professional instruments – guitars, basses, drums, keyboards/synths – and equipment – DJ gear, digital music workstations – and full recording facilities. Beyond providing access to equipment and resources, Notes for Notes educates youth about careers both on the stage and behind the scenes.
With such a unique program, it was only right that I get hands on and see what happens up close and personal. The day began with lunch provided for the youth. This allowed for the attendees to interact with one another and have some fun. Upon completion of lunch the group is split into 2.
Group 1 sits in the main area to hear from an Industry Insider while Group 2 heads into the Studio to learn from Industry Producers all it takes to produce a quality track. After 15 minutes the groups switch. This continues on throughout the day, allowing each youth time with each professional and the chance to get their questions answered in real time.
This go around PR Provisions had a line up that was fit for a real Industry Panel. Some of the guests included, singer/songwriter TikoPink, EDM Artist StormyATL. A&R for Universal/Bangvillage DreTheURL, and Industry Icon Aaron A. Reid, to name a few. Such a diverse line-up allowed for the youth to be able to get a feel from the industry from multiple perspectives.
Get into this video as you get to take a peek into what Aaron A. Reid had to say to the youth.
The youth took the time out to show us what they were made of as well. With one youth on the drums, two other youth took to the mics and began to have an energy flowing, lyrically filled, empowering cypher.
The faces of the youth who were observing were in total enjoyment. The atmosphere was fun. The youth were enjoying all that was going on and most of all, the Day of Awesomeness truly lived up to its name.
