Naked Highway’s latest offering ‘Never Cared’ finds our heroes bound (literally) in a beautiful prison of their own making – with help from a shadowy stranger! It is emotional, anthemic, dark, ironic and deliciously pop all at once!
Stylistically, ‘Never Cared’ is an indication of things to come from Naked Highway – a sparse, more focused and accessible sound. “With the increased popularity of electronic/EDM or whatever-you-want-to-call-it, there is a tendency to get swept away by the latest fad or trendy gimmicks,” says group founder Sy Boccari. “Much of our new material is song-focused – back to basics with an emphasis on vocal harmonies.”
Filmed in New York’s famed Meatpacking District, the ‘Never Cared’ video reflects the same beauty and disenchantment as the song – two musicians becoming entrapped in a world they’ve created – with help from adult film star Dirk Caber. “I conceived the video as an opportunity to feature Dirk in a non-sexual but darkly sexy role that shows off some of his unique BDSM skills,” explains group member and video director DLR, “It’s a physical manifestation and a great metaphor for the torment portrayed in the song’s lyrics.”
The duo spent part of 2015 touring along the Northeastern US. Their previous single ‘Cannibal’ debuted on the iTunes Dance chart #43. The group also contributed three songs to the viral Australian web series The Horizon, now in production as a full-fledged television drama.
Naked Highway’s production work is in continuous demand, creating remixes this past year for Parralox, Manila Luzon, Willam Belli and original recordings for indie artists George Alley & Brandon Hilton. Previous remix credits include major label acts such as The Presets, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, INXS.
