Bounce, the leading broadcast and multi-platform entertainment network serving African Americans, and its popular subscription streaming service Brown Sugar, will join forces for a major Black Music Month (BMM) tribute this June.
A cross-section of hosted movies, special events and new original programming highlight Bounce’s Black Music Month tribute. Every Friday night in June, viewers can enjoy double-feature BMM Movie Nights, hosted by J.D. Williams, one of the stars of Bounce’s #1 hit series Saints & Sinners:
- June 4 – Top female music artists who crossed over into film with two movies that feature great soundtracks, Waiting To Exhale (Whitney Houston) and Beauty Shop (Queen Latifah).
- June 11 – A tribute to Tupac Shakur to celebrate the prolific actor and rapper on what would be his 50th Birthday. Tupac: Resurrection, the acclaimed documentary about his life and death is first, followed by one of his most memorable moments on film in Juice, the story of four inner-city teens coming together to form a pact that changes their lives forever, co-starring Queen Latifah and Samuel L. Jackson.
- June 18 – A double feature of two musical biopics, Lady Sings The Blues (Diana Ross, Billy Dee Williams, Richard Pryor) and Why Do Fools Fall In Love (Larenz Tate, Halle Berry, Vivica A. Fox).
- June 25 – The final BMM Movie Night takes viewers back in time with period pieces that show how Black music has influenced the fabric of American culture with The Color Purple (Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover) and The Cotton Club (Gregory Hines).
Bounce will air Black Music Honors, the annual star-studded celebration of African-American music and entertainment. This year’s event will recognize the musical contributions of Angie Stone, Ginuwine, Ramsey Lewis, and Marvin Sapp and will feature a star-studded lineup of performances.
Bounce will also present a series of new, original short-form pieces produced in partnership with the National Museum of African American Music looking at the history of black music genres. These pieces will be seen across all Bounceplatforms, including on-air, social and at BounceTV.com throughout the month. Bounce’s Black Music Month is sponsored by Toyota, Unilever, Target, and Diageo/Crown Royal. Visit BounceTV.com for all dates and times.
