Recently, I was on Twitter and I came across a song by an artist name Avereaux. I had never heard of the artist before but I liked the visual so I decided to press play. Babeeeeeeeee, when I tell you this song was the egagashagabagga. I promise I had it on repeat for 2 days.
After realizing how much I loved the song and I had to have it in my life, I purchased it and both my phones and my tablet. It was just that serious. Naturally, due to my love for the song, I decided to get to know the artist. A man of much talent and an esteemed persona. I present to you, Avereaux!
DiamondKesawn: What current projects are you working on? Or, what projects have you just released?
Avereaux: I’m currently working on a mixtape entitled “A.L.P.H.A.” (All Love Phases Hate, Ave). It’s basically the symbol of the initiation of my career (hence the word, “Alpha”), & its acronym comes from a self-talk I had at one of my lowest points in life. I’ve already released my first (ever) buzz single two months ago, along with a couple remixes. I’m also working on producing mixtapes for some fellow upcoming artists.
DiamondKesawn: What inspired you to be in the Entertainment Industry?
Avereaux: I’ve always been into music, ever since I was a child. My father taught me how to produce at the age of 4, & ever since then, it’s been a huge passion of mine. Sixteen years later, it still is. I started singing at 6 years old, & then started rapping at the age of 12. I’ve always had this feeling that I’d become famous one day… But my reason towards seeking it now is very different than my reasoning back then.
DiamondKesawn: What was your first taste of Industry Life?
Avereaux: My dad was/is a DJ well known in Chicago. Lots of artists met up with him at clubs & events. I took a trip with him to the radio station where he’d DJ at a couple times, & I watched him work his magic. Later on in the day, some artists would come by & chat on the show with him.
DiamondKesawn: What is your favorite color?
Avereaux: Purple. It reminds me of Black Royalty. It’s also a symbolism of strength to me… My mother, who has Lupus & many other chronic diseases, went through lots of suffering while I was growing up. So much medication & so many treatments, but no cure… Her favorite color is purple, too. She managed to raise me on her own, despite the odds. That’s strength.
DiamondKesawn: Who are some of your inspirations?
Avereaux: As far as artistry is concerned, I like the flow of PARTYNEXTDOOR’s music. I have a few other artists who inspire my music, but I love his sound the most. Work ethic wise, definitely Beyonce & Nicki Minaj. The way they brand themselves amazes me.
DiamondKesawn: If you could collab with one person for the ultimate project, who would it be and why?
Avereaux: My favorite rapper, of course! Nicki Minaj. It’s on my bucket list. We WILL work together.
DiamondKesawn: Who is Top 3 on your Playlist/iPod/Music Stream/Etc. right now? Other than yourself.
Avereaux: Nicki Minaj, Chance The Rapper, & Dumblonde are my Top 3 as of this week. My picks definitely change every week. One minute I’m in a trap mood, the next minute I’m yodeling to the Calling All Lovers by Tamar Braxton.
DiamondKesawn: What is one thing you do when you are alone that the fans would never guess?
Avereaux: I like to get butt naked, hop in my bed, & watch Steven Universe. It’s my “Me” time. Don’t text me, don’t call me, don’t ask me to loan you money, none of that shit. I will block you with a quickness on everything.
DiamondKesawn: What is one thing you want the reader base to take away from your body(s) of work?
Avereaux: I want them to look beyond what they hear. I can be very lyrical at times… But even when I’m not, I still incorporate symbolism in my work. You’ll hear it from the production if you don’t hear it from my words. I try my best to incorporate as much of my creativity as possible, all the while making sure those who listen would be able to relate. I want my art to be understood, not misconstrued.
DiamondKesawn: Could you see yourself doing any other occupation?
Avereaux: I definitely want to venture off into acting at some point. I’m always acting out dramatic scenes when I’m by myself. Having “actor” on my resume would be huge to me.
DiamondKesawn: What is the biggest misconception that people think about you before they get to know you?
Avereaux: I’m very flirtatious at times, so people often think that I’m trying to get in everyone’s pants. That’s just how I am, though. I love handing out compliments, especially when the vibe is very friendly & warm. My “ho” phase is over. Trust me.
DiamondKesawn: To the aspiring talent who will read this interview, what are your words of encouragement for them?
Avereaux: Be the best you can be, but be humble. Don’t block your blessings by being conceited. Remember, there’s always someone better. Be great in your own lane, & don’t be afraid to be yourself. Take time to hone your craft, & perfect it.
DiamondKesawn: Any Shout-Outs?
