The announcement comes on the heels of the new music video for “Tic Boom,” which premiered on the hit TV show Grown-ish. The video sees an army of Noire-clad women entrenched in a face-to-face standoff with an opposing generic group on a stark white background. Of the video 47 says: “These young women are in a face off with their inner fears; that’s why it sometimes may look like they’re engaging in a face off with themselves. It’s about facing whatever your Goliath is and chopping its head off. That’s what Tic Boom is about. It’s about owning your moment, mastery, and doing it afraid if you have to.”
The release of Acrylic marks a new level of notoriety and critical acclaim for the multi-talented artist. Called “…a hood-chick lit masterpiece more colorful than a rack of nail polish.” by NPR, it was also named one their Best Albums of 2018 and received placement in Pitchfork‘s and Paper Magazine‘s year-end lists. Released in 3 parts, Acrylic chronicles the beloved ritual of getting your nails done. Of the album 47 says “Acrylic is a hard substance and I feel this is one of my harder records to date. It speaks to how hard times don’t break you, they make you. We have this saying that when you smell acrylic, you know just where you are.”
