BET Networks and Paramount TV announces that social influencer and rising comedic star Lala Milan is joining the cast of BET’s Boomerang, the newest 10-episode half-hour series on BET Networks.
The series, which is slated to drop next year, features Milan as character “TIA” in her first recurring television role. Tia, according to writers is a misguided performance artist with high ambitions. Tia is charismatic and wildly unique. True to Lala’s real-life personality, Tia is a true activist at heart with a dash of ratchet when need be.
Executively produced by Oscar and Emmy-award winning actresses Halle Berry and Lena Waithe, the series is expected to be more of a “continuation” and less of a reboot. According to the Hollywood Reporter, “The network announced on Tuesday that it has given a straight-to-series order for a reboot of the classic 1992 Eddie Murphy film ‘Boomerang,’ along with a slew of new scripted projects”.
“I’m thrilled to team up with Lena on this project as she is without a doubt a leading voice of her generation and a trailblazer in her own right,” exclaims Halle Berry. “I’m truly excited to be a part of bringing this iconic and beloved film to the small screen.”
Over the past few years, Lala has made a name for herself on various social media channels from Vine, Instagram, and Snapchat. After moving to Los Angeles, Lala began auditioning for movie and television roles with the hopes of expanding her brand, and eventually landed one of her first spots as a walk-on role on TNT’S hit show, “Claws” with Karrueche Tran and Niecey Nash. Lala would then continue to feed her television bug by appearing on MTV’s Celebrity Fear Factor alongside social comedic influencer and best friend Blameitonkway, who was recently featured in Janet Jackson’s tribute rendition to her brother, “Made For Now”. The episode ended up being one of the highest rated episodes to date.
