Event Recap: MBE Conference 2018

I had the chance to attend this year’s MBE Conference and it was truly an amazing time. The event kicked off with an amazing Red Carpet which allowed me the opportunity to meet some amazing talent.

First, let me fill you in on the weekend.

Friday kicked off with the Red Carpet, a Fashion Show, and an Artist Showcase.

This afforded the patrons the opportunity to meet & greet and connect with the industry heavy hitters who were in the building. The fashion show and talent showcase present a chance for the designers and artist to be seen by people who have the ability to change their lives with one signature. Oh yeah, it was that type of night.

Saturday presented a day filled with Entertainment Panels.

This was the chance for everyone to get the inside information from some of the executives who dominate their field.

Heather N. Beverly, ESQ moderated the “Entertainment Law” Panel. Chelsea “Sammy” Samuel of Radio One moderated the “Digital” Panel. “Hurricane” Dave Smith, VP of Programming for Radio One moderated the “Cane’s Rules for Success” Panel. Derek Harper, Program Director of WAMJ and WPZE moderated the “Radio programming Executives” Panel. And, Larry Khaan, Senior Vice President of Urban Promotion for Interscope Records lead the “Major Record Label Executives” Panel. Oh yeah, as you can see, MBEC was not playing at all. They hit us panel after panel and the attendees were more than pleased.

After a day of panels, the night was reserved for the MBE Awards Dinner and Gala.

Sunday closed out the weekend and as anticipated was a winner as well.

Bryan Calhoun, Owner of Music Business Toolbox moderated the “Management and Digital Strategy” Panel. DJ Big X Atl, CEO of the Coalition DJ’s moderated the “DJ’s and A&R is it a Hit or Brick” Panel. And, the weekended went out on a high note with another amazing Artist Showcase.

The weekend was nothing short of amazing. The MBE team was professional, informative, and most of all great host. If you missed it this year, this is your warning that you must be in attendance next year!

About MBEC Founder Arlinda Garrett:

MBEC Founder, Arlinda Garrett, known as the “Queen of Promotions” states, “As I saw the shift in the industry, I also saw a need to educate independent record labels and their artists to provide professional direction, get their records played on the radio and provide a medium to track sales. One of my priorities is assisting with minimizing their costs because often times the independent artist does not have the budget of a major label artist, yet they have a product that is comparable, if not better. The MBEC was created with that in mind and to equip them with the necessary tools for success in an ever-changing industry.”
