Latinoamericana is the follow up to his multiple Latin GRAMMY-nominated album, Amiga, which was Rolling Stone’s #1 Latin Album of the Year.
Nacional Records is proud to announce the release of Alex Anwandter’s new album, Latinoamericana.
His previous album, Amiga, was named Rolling Stone’s #1 album of the year (ahead of J Balvin and Juan Gabriel), received 2 Latin GRAMMY nominations (he gave a groundbreaking performance of “Manifiesto” at the Premiere Ceremony – watch it here), swept Chile’s Premios Pulsar where he won Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Producer of the Year, and Best Pop Artist. The track “Como Puedes Vivir Contigo Mismo?” from his solo debut Rebeldes was named among Rolling Stone’s list of the 50 Greatest Latin Pop Songs. Alex has become a strong voice for the LGBTQ community, not only through his music, but also as a filmmaker. His debut feature film, Nunca Vas a Estar Solo, did the international festival circuit and won several awards, including the Teddy Award (for LGBTQ filmmaking) at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Alex continues to grow as an artist, and he describes Latinoamericana as “a song cycle exploring gender, sexuality, and Latinx identity in dark times – where, it has become apparent, the arc of the moral universe does not seem to bend towards justice.”
The new album also includes two covers of Brazilian songs – his first time recording in Portuguese because of the “very personal fact that my father is Brazilian, and the music from that time makes up a huge part of my musical DNA.”
