Montreal quartet Fleece released the third single in their three-part 2020 single series “Upside Down.”
“Upside Down” is a fun, Motown-inspired song about lead-singer/songwriter Matt Rogers crushing on strangers. It’s about that little second of mutual romance when two boys smile as they pass by each other on the street. It’s also about harnessing that energy you give each other and using it to get through the day.
Discussing, Rogers states, “Moments like these used to bring on feelings of shame and confusion. I guess because I was still feeling weird about being gay,” states Rogers. “But now I’m comfy in my skin and take moments like these as a little jolt of espresso to keep me chugging along. There’s nothing like the feeling of mutual attraction.”
Fleece are a band dedicated to communicating comfort, warmth and passion. The stories they tell comprise of Matt’s experience as a gay man in a technology-obsessed world. Though he designs his lyrics to be light-hearted and fun, he also wants to positively influence others by singing about the lessons he’s learned through personal struggle.
Fleece released their sophomore album Voyager in 2017, garnering critical support while selling out 500+ capacity venues in Toronto and Montreal. In spring 2018, they toured the U.S. and Canada with Born Ruffians, then toured that fall in support of Tokyo Police Club. They spent 2019 writing, growing, learning, and figuring out what comes next. The band opened a new chapter with “Love Song For The Haters” in April followed by “So Long” in June, and look to bring a new full-length album into the world in 2021. Stay tuned.
