As we close out October, a month set aside in part to bring awareness to Breast Cancer, Charge Up Campaign will host its second SurvivorsCon and Pink Pajama Party. Hosted on a virtual platform, the afternoon of education and empowerment will be followed by an evening of sisterhood and celebration will take place Saturday, October 31, 2020.
Freedom: The Awakening of a Warrior is the theme for this year’s conference hosted to provide education, tools, and resources to support cancer warriors, survivors, and caregivers. The topics for the afternoon will include navigating through COVID-19, the importance of family support, and financial preparedness. The afternoon panels will be facilitated by Charge Up Campaign founder Charessa Sawyer and Tiffany Toxey along with moderators Queen Aftan and Jasmine Lewis. Each year, the Charge Up Campaign also honors survivors and supporters of the organization in an awards ceremony. Past honorees Felicia Mahone, breast cancer survivor and patient advocate; Dr. April Spencer, surgical oncologist and Niya Brown Matthews, two-time breast cancer survivor and Ford Pink Warrior. The virtual Pink Pajama Party will be held Saturday evening and will host a fireside chat, karaoke, dance party, and more. Attendees of the SurvivorsCon virtual experience will walk away understanding and embracing the pillars of the Charge Up Campaign – inspire, empower, and educate. Registration is available via www.survivorscon20.eventbrite.
Attendees will be able to participate in giveaways and VIP registrants will also receive the inaugural Charge Up Warrior Box provided by B Cameron Stationary. Sponsors for the weekend include Fulton-Dekalb Hospital Authority, Enhanced Aesthetics by Jaalah, Roxie’s Vegan Oatmeal Cookies, and Legacy Speaks.
The Charge Up Campaign was created by Charessa Sawyer after her own experience with being a caregiver for her mother, who is a breast cancer survivor. She says that she and her siblings realized that once they stopped focusing on mom “the patient” and celebrated her as a mom “the person” she gained a new outlook on life. In line with the pillars of the organization; Empowering survivors, Inspiring warriors, and Educating communities, it is Charessa’s goal to travel to each state to host Smile Sessions, Day of Celebration makeovers, and educational events to provide tools and resources for life after cancer.
