Kito and ZHU’s new official video for their Jeremih collaboration “Follow” is a shimmering and emotive clip that captures the magic of a summer in New York City through dance. Out today on Astralwerks and directed by Danica Arias Kleinknecht, the visual features a crew of dancers moving through parks, rooftops, tunnels, and empty streets, absorbing and echoing the strange energy that the city offers in the year’s hottest months. Featuring dancers Caleb Bonney and Stephen Ojo — both of whom appeared in Beyoncé’s recent film Black Is King — the video echoes the uplifting anthemics of the single, pairing the soaring house pianos and breathy vocals with fluid movements and captivating choreography. It’s a continuation of the previously released dance video, but the world is bigger, magnifying the ecstatic energy and adding a sense of optimism.
For Kito, this video comes after a string of stunning singles that followed her debut on Astralwerks in 2019. Her collaboration with Empress Of, “Wild Girl,” made waves on U.S. dance radio, and garnered over 13 million streams across the globe. Recent months have also seen the release of “Alone With You,” featuring AlunaGeorge, and “Bitter” with FLETCHER.
Each single Kito has released over the last few years demonstrates her continued growth as a producer, paying tribute to her roots in the global dance music scene while demonstrating a knack for a textured, unexpected take on pop music.
“Follow” comes on the heels of ZHU’s recent collaborations with Tinashe (“ONLY”), partywithray (“CAME FOR THE LOW”) and Bob Moses (“Desire”). Last week ZHUreleased his new track “Risky Business” alongside a mysterious video that is a piece of jumpy surveillance footage from an experiment known as Project 20201.
