North London singer-songwriter Mae Muller shares her new single ‘So Annoying’ and its accompanying video, directed by Sophie Muller (No Doubt, Selena Gomez, Rihanna, Beyoncé). Produced by Rick Nowels, Dean Reid and Austin Corona, the track is available to watch/stream here.
Written by Mae, Rick Nowels (Madonna, Lana Del Rey) and Skyler Stonestreet (Ariana Grande, Chainsmokers), “So Annoying” sees Mae explain her disdain for pining for her love, exhibiting stripped back vocals layered over melodic guitar. The video takes us on a journey of the distractions that occur when preoccupied with missing someone. Featuring her friends and family including a special cameo from her younger sibling- taking on the role of the annoying younger brother- the video is a personal tale of Mae’s struggles with love.
“’So Annoying’ is a song about falling in love without wanting to, says Mae. “Usually people like the idea of falling in love, but to me it’s just scary and slightly inconvenient! When you love somebody you’re almost handing over that power; if you left, it would affect me! So to me, that always seemed daunting. I also wanted to write about the push and pull you sometimes can experience when you’re in love. Even though we fight and you aggravate the hell out of me, we will always run back to each other. How annoying!!!”
The single follows ‘I Don’t Want Your Money’, which was included in Spotify’s RADAR: First Listen program and was co-written by Mae and Jimmy Napes (Sam Smith, Khalid, Alicia Keys). The song’s soft, soulful vibe contrasts sharply with her very direct lyrics as Mae makes it clear that money can’t buy her love – after all, she’s financially self-reliant and looking for something deeper.
With singles featuring on Spotify’s New Music Friday, Apple Music’s A-List Pop, In My Room & Future Hits and more, Mae’s tracks have already amassed over 100 million streams globally. She’s stormed her way through the live world with a sold out 2020 headline tour of the U.K. and a dedicated social following.
