Breaking Glass Pictures is proud to announce the North American release of the steamy LGBTQ Brazilian bathhouse drama COPA 181. Breaking Glass acquired rights to COPA 181 in September in a deal negotiated between Breaking Glass CEO Rich Wolff and Igor Kupstas, Director of O2 Films. The film will arrive on DVD & VOD on October 29, 2019.
The first feature film from Brazilian director Dannon Lacerda, COPA 181 held its world premiere at the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival, and went on to have a healthy festival run including the 26th Festival Mix Brasil, Reeling Film Festival, and FICMAI – Festival Internacional de Cine en Maipú, where it won Best Picture.
“It’s been a pleasure for us to do business with Breaking Glass”, said Kupstas. “I’m honored and thrilled to know that our Brazilian movies are finding an audience abroad.”
COPA 181 follows Taná, who lives with his wife Eros, in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. While he works at a small building supplies store, she is dedicated to a career as an opera singer. Seemingly, the couple is going about their usual routine, until a transvestite named Kika arrives and gradually affects the lives of everyone involved.
“Dannon Lacerda’s assured debut feature follows the tale of a married couple in Rio de Janeiro, who together lead a very average life”, said Richard Ross, Co-President of Breaking Glass Pictures. “An unexpected encounter forces them to confront who they are, and what they mean to each other. Honest, personal and completely unassuming, COPA 181 is an important addition to the growing market of quality Brazilian films.”
