Aydian Dowling: Remake of Iconic Levine Shoot

We’ve all seen the that rather scantily clad photograph of Maroon 5‘s Adam Levine for testicular and prostate cancer awareness (yes, by ‘scantily clad’ I do mean just a pair of manicured hands and some tattoos!) taken four years ago for Cosmopolitan Magazine.

Now, Aydian Dowling – vlogger, advocate for transgender issues and entrepreneur – has recreated the photograph for transgender magazine FTM, to be released April of this year.

After releasing a sneak peak on his Youtube channel ahead of the magazine’s issue going to print, Dowling’s own shoot went viral.

Speaking about his body, with regards to his transition from physically female to male, Dowling is quoted to have said: ‘Some areas of my body used to remind me of everything I’m not, now they represent everything I am.’

The reception the image has received is reported to have been almost entirely positive, and is considered a huge step in breaking down the stigma that surrounds the transgender community.
