This year, The OUTshine Film Festival’s annual Angel Award is being given to an outstanding individual that has contributed heavily to both helping expand the reach of the OUTshine film festival and providing unwavering support to the local LGBTQ community.
George Zuber has spent decades supporting independent film and LGBTQ rights in the greater Miami area, and to honor his years of support and dedication, the OUTshine Film Festival is excited to award him our 2018 Angel Award.
A founding member of the Board of Directors of Our Fund, a South Florida community foundation, Geogre previously served on national boards of directors, including Lambda Legal, The Actors Fund, SAGE USA and Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP). George is a former member of the OUTshine Film Festival Board of Directors and has been instrumental in expanding our representation of Broward County Board members. He’s also chaired the Screening Committee for OUTshine’s Fort Lauderdale edition for the past three years.
George’s love of film goes deeper than just chairing the Screening Committee. He’s also produced four films, most recently “Where Justice Ends”, which, in pre-release, launched OUTshine’s new social justice series. Other films include “Jo Jo is a Dog’s Name” (2008), written and directed by Independent Spirit nominee, Ken Hanes (Fixing Frank, 2005), “With This Ring” (2011), and a feature-length documentary, “Just Gender” (2014).
“We’re incredibly grateful to have an advocate and supporter like George Zuber behind us. George has been instrumental in helping the OUTShine Film Festival further expand to Fort Lauderdale and the greater Broward area. And his incredible production work has served as the foundation for OUTshine’s new social justice series which works to spotlight social injustice and under-represented voices within the LGBTQ community.” – Victor Gimenez, Executive Director of MiFo LGBT Film Festival.
George Zuber will receive his Angel Award at the 10th Anniversary Fort Lauderdale OUTshine Film Festival Opening Night, October 18, 2018 at 7pm.
