David Bowie, the iconic entertainer, has succumbed after an 18-month bout with cancer.
The artist’s estate made the announcement on his various social media accounts.
“David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief,” read the statement.
Bowie had a career that spanned over 40 years were he experimented with rock, glam rock, pop, soul, dance, and other forms of music.
Some of Hip-Hop’s biggest stars have sampled Bowie through the years.
Jay Z, Public Enemy, Diddy, EPMD, Nas, Mos Def, The Game and others have used Bowie’s music.
