Hot off the heels of Spotify’s SXSW Playlist Top Song “294” at SXSW 2020, Bridget Lyons – singer + songwriter + producer – is set to release the highly anticipated track “Love for a Gun” Monday, September 6 on Spotify, Itunes, Pandora, Sound Cloud and Rhapsody. The song is about the resilience of the human spirit and is the fourth song to be released from the talent-packed album “294.”
Lyons says about the song, “We call it swamp rock; kind of a rock/blues vibe. It’s about getting knocked down, abandoned, and reminds us, we cannot wallow in self-pity. We walk through the valley – so-to-speak – but that’s not a place to set up camp.” Like all songs Lyons writes and sings, the lyrics are inspired by her own life events and the verses are a culmination of different times in her life. “I have definitely reached a certain level of despair at times in my life, and others have experienced depths of hurt as well, sometimes at their own doing, but love is so much more powerful than hurt. That’s why this song is called “Love for a Gun” and not “Gun for a Gun.””
Lyons pulls together an industry-powerhouse team on this album with singles “My Darling” released in Nov. 2019; the SXSW hit “294” released in March 2020; “Getting Married” in fall 2020; and now “Love for a Gun,” with two more songs in the chamber for release this fall.
“I’ve got two bad ass, incredible female guitarists on this track – Lady Techster and Kalo – and the entire album is really a work of art by contributors who are all excelling in their craft,” says Lyons. The album “294” features Brady Knippa on drums, who performed with Dayglow Band at Austin City Limits (ACL) in 2019 and 2021. With Knippa, Dayglow also performed at Lollapalooza 2021, on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon earlier this year, and was the recipient of an iheartradio music award nomination.
Grammy Award winning Alex Petersen is on bass. Peterson is an Austin, Tx native who earned coveted industry accolades for his performance on Gary Clark, Jr.’s album “This Land,” winning a Grammy in 2020 with other greats like drummer Sheila E. He has opened for B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and others.
Mark Lavengood is on Dobro; he’s played with 2021 Grammy Award winner Billy Strings, Lindsay Lou and the Flat Bellies. Max Lockwood plays cello and Dutcher Snedeker on piano round out this album. Lyons also engaged Kevin Kozal and the Emmy Award winning team at 3rd Coast Recording for expert engineering and renowned Studio quality.
“Everything I write is driven by what I’ve experienced. Staying committed to authentic and connected writing allows space for healing and courageousness to take root; it allows space for others to share their truths as well.” says Lyons. “This entire album is the love child of passionate, wildly talented people. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to make it during such a devastating time.” (Speaking of the 2020 Covid-19 shut down.)
