A Long Road To Freedom: The Advocate Celebrates 50 Years

Following its world premiere at Outfest 2018, the critically acclaimed Here TV Original documentary, A LONG ROAD TO FREEDOM: The Advocate Celebrates 50 Years hits theaters this month.

Directed by Billy Clift and produced by Emmy-nominated actor-producer David Millbern, A LONG ROAD TO FREEDOM: The Advocate Celebrates 50 Years is now set to have a 20-city theatrical release including Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Seattle, and Madison, to name a few.

Narrated by Laverne Cox with music by Melissa Etheridge, this moving feature-length documentary focuses on watershed moments in LGBTQ history through never-before-seen footage and engaging interviews with former NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt, Caitlyn Jenner, Don Lemon, Gloria Allred, Gavin Newsom, Dustin Lance Black, Margaret Cho, Armistead Maupin, Bruce Vilanch, Greg Louganis, DeRay Mckesson, Candis Cayne, Guillermo Diaz, and many more. Starting with the Black Cat Riots, the film covers Stonewall, the disco sexual revolution, the AIDS crisis, marriage equality, and the trans movement to present day.

“This documentary lays out a clear path of resistance that resides in the DNA of the LGBTQ community,” says actor-producer David Millbern. “It demonstrates that with courage and resilience, we can conquer any foe. As bad as things may seem currently, we have been here before. We hope that this film not only educates but serves as a call to action for a new generation of activists.”

A LONG ROAD TO FREEDOM: The Advocate Celebrates 50 Years is a call to action for all minority groups and their movements (Black Lives Matter, Female Empowerment, Trans-inclusivity, etc.) to come together to speak out and fight: GAY, STRAIGHT, BLACK, WHITE, SAME STRUGGLE, SAME  FIGHT!

A LONG ROAD TO FREEDOMThe Advocate Celebrates 50 Years, is an excellent opportunity for cinema owners, large and small, to acknowledge the members of their LGBT community,” says Bruce Eisen, myCinema’s head of content acquisition. “This is a great example of how myCinema, along with great partners like Here Media, is able to help cinema owners expand, acknowledge, and support their audiences, and improve the overall utilization of their screens.”
